A-28/30 Cabin Doors

Post by johnmurray »

I have always found the entrance arrangements to the main cabin very awkward. There are the two horizontal sections that have to be pulled out of their tracks and stowed (with difficulty) on the port side of the pilot house and then there is the vertical hinged door that is swung to the side and then hooked on to keep it from banging.
There must be a better way. I know of at least one company that makes improved doors for standard pattern sailboats, but they do not appear to have anything for power boats.
Has anyone given any thought to this matter or come up with an improved cabin door? (My daughter suggested something like a minature hinged sectional garage door.)

I once had a crazy thought of a set-up similar to a "roll top desk" .... not very secure though. My 2 horizintal sections usually stay stowed throughout the season. That takes the routine out of it!

You have two sections? I have one heavy one similar to a sailboat. I never really paid much attention to other boats. Never see them. I stow mine behind the port seat with a bungee.
