Zinc Locations/ oil change

Post by Jeff Lavallee »

I am almost ready for the water. I have a Nissan LD 28 and was wondering if anyone knew where the pencil zinc was? Also if there is an oil drain plug, if not how have you extracted the old oil. Also wondering where else on your 27 you have zincs. It looks like there is room on the prop shaft?Any help would be great

Hi Jeff, I have the Isuzu engine so I don't know if this will help but I only have one zinc in the engine and it is located on the bottom of the heat exchanger, unless it was painted over it should be a brass plug. I change my oil with a suction pump that is available at most marine suppliers or even some hardware stores. It is just a tube that inserts into the dipstick tube and with the suction draws the oil out (time consuming). Drill powered pumps or 120 volt pumps are also available and are much faster. Other zincs you should definitely have are on the rudder and on the propeller shaft.
