raw water washdown and livewell

plan to seatrial an '03 28te in the near future. the boat i have in mind is missing the washdown & livewell which is important to me.
question; do most of your washdown and livewells utilize the same pump and seacock?

is the compartment for the live well already plumbed for drains. i am hoping for a realitively easy DIY project. i just never get used to drilling holes thru the hull of my boat.
also of concern is the wiring and switching.

On my 2006 the sea cocks are seperate. I am sure that the drain in the livewell compartment is there, and easy enough to check by dumping some water in. All of the rear compartments have drains that drain overboard in them. I think that the wires for the pumps might also be there, and also easy enough to look for. Mine are on the port side, just ahead of the fuel tank. Mine is a flush deck, so if the one your looking at is a motor box, maybe someone else will chime in with the locations.

I found myself in the same situation when I bought my new to me '02 in '04. I purchased my boat from Standish and had them install as OEM would have been. As Carl mentioned both were pre-wired from the helm on seperate switches for seperate pumps. They installed two seperate intakes. One is a scoop strainer and the other just a disc. Can't recall which is which???????????? They are both installed aft port below the hatch access by the transom door behind the fuel tank bulkhead. Happy to snap a photo when visiting the boat later today.

i'd appreciate that, would like to locate the intakes and pumps as close to original equipment as possible.

hopefully the stern compartments are drain equipped, they should be.

On my '01 28TE they are on the port side aft with the live well pump attached to the seacock

My engine box model has the washdown port side, next to the step, behind the mates seat. Separate seacock and pump. (thanks for reminding me I have to fix mine )

My 03 28TE engine box was built without the saltwater washdown or livewell plumbing. I solved both by teeing off the seacock that feeds the AC and installing a washdown kit with a fitting and coiled hose on the starboard side just ahead of the transom. I use either box in the transom for bait and provide seawater by leaving the hose nozzle in the "on" position and just dropping it in the box I'm using. The starboard most box (smaller) has an overflow drain and works best as a live well. I always try to bleed fish ASAP and do it in fresh, cool, seawater in the fish box (larger box) with water from the same hose. All the wiring was live and the switch on the helm panel was already marked for "saltwater washdown".

just looked at an '02 yesterday. regarding the stern boxes, do they drain into the bilge?( could get smelly and messy in the bilge)) i didn't see them going thru hull.

using the washdown as a live well feed also sounds acceptable..........thanks

By "stern boxes" I assume you are referring to the two boxes in the transom. On my 03' the larger of the two, known as the fish box, or the beer cooler, depending on that days' mission, has a drain only that exits out a fitting under the swim platform which you might have missed if the boat was in the water. The smaller compartment to starboard has a drain in the bottom and another about a foot below the lid for overflow. Both these exit through fittings below the swim platform as well. The smaller compartment makes a great livewell if plumbed with raw water directly, or in my case, just turn on the saltwater washdown hose and toss it into the livewell with the bottom drain plugged. Oh, its also handy for chilling a Methuselah of champagne when filled with ice.
The storage boxes in the cockpit sole which I originally mistook for undersized fish boxes, do, indeed drain into the bilge, and I now use them to store fenders, lines, boat soap etc.

i like the alternative uses for these boxes also!
