A Head Start on the Season!

Post by johnmurray »

Last week my daughter and I were escaping the frozen north with a short vacation in Naples Florida, and we decided to do a day charter of an Albin 28 that is available from Southwest Florida Yacht Charters in N. Fort Myers. It turned out that there was real blow the day we chose to go out, but we decided to go anyway, in part because I had also booked a captain (due to some temporary physical issues).
We confined our voyage to the river but even that was marginal given winds up to gale force, the wave action and limited visibility, but a good time was had by all, helped by a nice lunch break at a Cape Coral restaurant. The boat behaved as any good Albin should and our intrepid captain (who said it was the worst weather he had in his three years with Southwest) kept us entertained while keeping the boat out of the shallows. By the way we also saw two other A-28s, one was a Coast Guard Auxillary and the other up on a hoist at a waterfront home.
Now that our appetite is wetted we have only seven weeks to wait until our local splash date in the third week of May!
