How much paint?

Post by Carl »

I did a search but couldnt come up with the answer even though I thought I read it once. How much bottom paint do I need to put 2 coats on a 28?
At over 200 bucks a gallon I dont want to have much left over.

Thanks

Carl,
1 gallon shoud do it.
Most of the quality paints come in quarts if you run low.

For the past several years I have had great success with Pettit HYDROCOAT water-based ablative anti-fouling paint.
When POWERBOAT REPORTS was still available, they did exhaustive tests on bottom paints.
Time and time again, HYDROCOAT was rated very high from Florida to New England.
I've kept my boats in from May to November in fairly shallow and warm Cape Cod waters. (High 70's)
When hauled, just a bit of slime which power-washes away with no effort.
No barnicles, no other growth.
It's water-based, easy to apply, quick clean-up with soap and water.
It's not $200/gal.
West Marine (and they are expensive) has it on sale right NOW for $99.
Just a thought.

1Gallon for 2 coats sounds like a stretch. I used to need about a gallon per coat on my A27. The 32 needs 1 1/2. Won't need as much for the second coat.

Is this a bare hull?

Its not bare but the dealer only put one coat on it last year when it was new. After the haul out and pressure wash it is pretty much down to the barrier coat. Want to put two coats on it and a third on the waterline. Ill start with two gallons and see where it goes. Thanks!
