Maogwaicat/Darryl asked me by email what we've done about the leaky transom compartments on our boat. Do other 35CB's have gaskets and latches on the transom compartments? Ours doesn't, and plenty of rainwater leaks in. The small starboard compartment isn't too bad, but the large center compartment has one drain - on the port side. And the boat either lists slightly to starboard or the bottom of the compartment isn't sloped to port....either way, the end result is that it doesn't drain.
The low-tech solution that's working well is a Stamoid cover for the whole thing and Dri-dek lining the bottom.

Take a close look at the scupper drains. If they are clogged with debris and dirt, the water can't run through and out of the boat.

Thanks Thomas. The drain is fine. The problem (well, part of the problem) is that the water flows to the other end of the compartment. The main problem is the lid design. I guess if you kept bait in there or something, you would care that the lids leak.

Re: Solution to leaky lazarettes 35CB
Thanks for these posts. I have an Albin 35 TE yr 2001 with folding canvas canopy shelter over the cockpit. The lazarette leakage is minimal with the canopy up but more substantial when the canopy is folded. I run the bilge pumps after each heavy rainfall for about 15 minutes to empty the bilges. I will be installing new rubber gaskets on all the floor compartments in spring.

Re: Solution to leaky lazarettes 35CB
Hello All,
We had compression latches and gaskets professionally installed on our leaky starboard lazarette hatches and they are GREAT! Sadler Point Marine in Jacksonville (Brooks Busey, Manager) did a wonderful job on defining my nebulous request to "Shut the darn lazarettes and secure them" and designed a great solution. No idea of the nomenclature, I just write the checks. Sadler did a decent job with little info, They are ready to help any of you Albin fans, they do know about working with the Albin 35CB. DC

What a great solution, Darryl! Thanks for posting.
I like the idea of shelves in the one compartment, and I might steal it, but I'd use something that doesn't rust. (I know these pre-date you.)

Re: Solution to leaky lazarettes 35CB
Darryl, the gaskets on your compartments spurred me to action. Our Stamoid cover had taken care of most of the problem, but water was still getting in, I presume through the stitching. Or maybe it was condensation. Either way, large the port compartment was still wet enough to keep everything damp and kind of moldy.
I installed 1/16” thick x ¾” wide neoprene on the lids, and now everything is bone dry - the old towel, chamois cloths, etc. What an easy, satisfying project. For $11, it’s probably worth a try even without a cover. Here's the neoprene gasket I used:
