Deck Hatches

I'm considering making an offer on a mid 90's 28TE. The boat is in pretty good shape over all but when you're walking around on deck, the hatches are soft. Specifically the hatches port and starboard of the engine box.

I've had this problem with hatches on my sail boat and the fix was to remove the hatch, pry off the bottom layer of glass, scrape out the rotted core, epoxy in new core material and do a layer of cloth over the new core.

Are the hatches on the Albin cored? They seem to thin to have any coring material in them. If they aren't cored, would the fix be to just sand down some of the glass on the bottom side and put in 2 new layers of cloth and resin?

They don't feel like they're ready to cave in or anything, I'd just like to have them be more solid. No where else on deck feels soft.

They are cored. Been there and done that. I was going to do mine myself but decided to have my glass guy do it. He re cored them using a no rot material, so now that it’s done it will never have to be touched again. We also did the three stern hatches at the same time. They weren’t as bad but showed elevated moisture on the meter.
