side vent collector boxes

Post by gmberkley »

I just purchased three new side collector boxes as the plastic ones were original and cracking. Per the picture, the opening is oval shaped where the 4" vent piping is supposed to attach to it. The question is...............what is the best way to attach a vent pipe that is round, to an oval shaped hole? is there an adaptor that can be purchased to facilitate a proper connection?

thanks for any help

The hole is oval to accommodate a round pipe coming in at an angle. The required pipe O.D. is the same as the shortest distance across the oval.

Squeeze the wire supported vent hose into an oval shape to insert then use a plastic to plastic compatible sealant on both sides to close any gaps and you're done.

Make sure that you have the correct collector box on the correct side of the boat as that the bottom of the box is pitched outward to allow water to drain.

Sikaflex 291? From what I have read on LifeSeal, if that is what was on hand, that I would use. (I have Sikaflex on hand.)

Like Willie says, Life Seal or Sika 291 will work.
