2000 Albin 28 TE prop change info needed.

Post by briliz197 »

Hi, I have this gorgeous boat listed above with a 300hp Yanmar 6LP/STE and a 17 x 16 prop that reaches about 18 k and I would like some more speed . My friend gave me his old 4 bladed 20 R 22 prop
and I am wondering if this prop would fit on my boat and give me more speed? Please advise as I am getting the bottom painted soon.

It’ll fit but you won’t make WOT. max size prop I fitted was 20.5 x 19.5 but that was a special.

Normal size is 19x19 with a 5 cup.

Thank you TREE for your quick reply, but what is WOT?
Would the 19 x 19with a 5 cup give me more speed?

OK, I think I got it. Wikipedia did not know, so I dont feel so bad. I think you might mean Wide open throttle?

Start at 19x19 with the 5 cup. Depending on boat weight you may or may not make WOT (wide open throttle)

You will certainly see a cruise around 17 knots and tope end around 21-22knots.

Yeah, 17 knots @ 3,600 RPM on my 2001 with a 6LP-STE.
It will go faster at wide open throttle and especially with a prop tweaked for higher speeds but the engine may suffer...
