replacement finish trim pieces

Post by gmberkley »

I have several areas where the trim edging is coming off, per the attached picture, which is the edge of the closet door on the starboard side next to the bathroom door, and also have trim edge pieces coming off in other areas. is there a place where replacement pieces can be purchased? and the ones that are falling off but can be salvaged, is there a "best way" to reattach them.

thanks

No idea where you would find replacements, but if you have the missing pieces I would recommend using contact cement to re-bond the formica to the wood.

I managed to get mine back using a hot iron and cloth between the surface of the trim and the iron. The heat from the iron warmed the aged glue and allowed me to press it back flat. Obviously where it has come off and no longer there will need to be replaced - I’d think any automotive interior trimmer could do that for you.

If just lifting use Tree's method to reapply.

Otherwise a good lumber supply or even online will have rolls of cabinet "edge banding" available. Edge banding come in every imaginable color of every laminate out there. New edge banding has adhesive on it ready to go. Just peel and stick.

Gregg - My approach would be to get some sample chips of Formica and Wilson Art laminates from your local building supply that sells cabinetry and try to match to your existing and then have them order you a roll of edging to the matched sample chip.
