Prop Speed anti fouling?
Is anyone currently using Prop Speed anti fouling coatings for your under water gear? How is it holding up in saltwater as far as barnacle or other fouling buildup? Tom A

Holds up about 1 years.
My boat is docked in brackish water, but plenty trips in ocean and salt water bays.

As one of the "slow boats" (so a super slick prop is low on my list) - I have been using Rustoleum Galvanized Zinc spray and the underwater metals - growth has been extremely limited (even last year - when we were out of county and the boat sat for 6 weeks). $7 bucks a can and it has done awesome.

How do you make it stick to the metal?rebuckley wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 8:57 am As one of the "slow boats" (so a super slick prop is low on my list) - I have been using Rustoleum Galvanized Zinc spray and the underwater metals - growth has been extremely limited (even last year - when we were out of county and the boat sat for 6 weeks). $7 bucks a can and it has done awesome.
I tried a few coats after having cleaned the prop with acetone.
some areas did not stick, had to remove it and went back to prop speed.

Re: Prop Speed anti fouling?
I have not really had an issue with the stick - I cleaned it up and it stayed pretty well. Some areas were pretty worn away by the end of the year (maybe cavitation or something) but the wear of the paint was pretty uniform on the blades - so I assume it was just from running.

Big fan of the Rustoleum, have been using it on my boats for about ten years - current boat is Albin PB 37 with twins - cruises at about 10 knots and boat out of the Housatonic River in CT into LI Sound. This year was a good test as the boat sat for basically the entire summer in the slip, props and metal were in much better shape than the bottom so again - always had good luck with the stuff.

I use the rustoleum as well. Same as petit for a third of the price. I have used them side by side and found no difference. Also doesn't hurt to use the boat from time to time.

Re: Prop Speed anti fouling?
My yard used Pettit Barnacle barrier spray on my running gear, seems to be holding up well about 9 months in, according to my diver. It is much cheaper than PropSpeed.
