Agree, with documented maintenance it could be ok.
These motors are not very forgiving if ignored, zincs, coolant, exhaust, timing belt, etc.

Re: yanmar 315 2500 hours?
I’m on 2030 hours now. Starts first time every time. Had a couple of little niggles over time from previous neglected maintenance.
Doesn’t use any oil, very little smoke on start up and sounds smooth as silk. I’ve known these engines to be removed at 12,000 hours in a commercial rod and line fishing boat only to be put into another boat and continue running for many more years.
Rebuild costs here aren’t horrendous, around £5-6k for a full rebuild.

Tree,
Ok so i know the pound is 1.31 to 1 USD but In California was quoted 15K to rebuild.
Has any one else been quoted a cost to rebuild a Yanmar 6LP STE?
Tom

My current meters reads 3,492 hrs. I have had great success with this engine and like many others have pointed out, preventative maintenance is the key.
