Hi,
I know my glow plugs are not working but the ambient temperate is high enough for my boating to not need them. They are on the list, just have not gotten around to fixing them yet.
This is my third summer with the boat, a 27FC. I have always had a hard time starting the Lehman 4D61. I thought it was cranking fast enough but it was always a struggle to get it going. This weekend I found a 1000 cca marine battery at Walmart for $79. The amps are great but the battery is under-sized. I figured for that price, I had nothing to lose. I put it in and love the results.
With a cold start, I only had to push the starter twice for only a few seconds. Apparently, the friction generated by starting the engine gets internal temperatures high enough to ignite the fuel under compression. If too slow to crank, not enough friction generated.
I did check the ground to the block and a second to the starter. They were clean and in good condition.
Figured I would share.

Re: 1000 cca marine battery
Good deal.
Sometime when you get around to it, do a voltage drop test on the starter and the large cables. You can find out how via you tube university.
I did that on mine last year and ended up replacing both cables because the drop was too much. And it doesn't take much to affect starting.
