1971 Albin Scampi 30

Post by AS30ft05082020 »

Has anyone heard of an Albin Scampi 30 ? A 1971 30-ft. Sailboat.
I’m looking for the hull I.D. number, which I can’t seem to find. I read online that H.I.N. were not required until 1972, so maybe that’s why ?

I have now. And seen some great videos on YT posted by Jano Cuetos, who is a better sailor than I could ever imagine being. Like this one:

Of course you are on an Albin power boat forum here, and the Sailboatowners forum has an Albin section that might be more fruitful for you.

As to the HIN, I would be surprised if there was not one. Most likely place is the transom. Look right in the centre behind or to the right side of the rudder pintles/gudgeons. Might be under paint.

Looks like a wonderful boat.

Googling the Scampi-30 reveals lots of pretty current pix of a really great looking 30' sloop. There's at least one pic of a beautiful interior design. I look forward to following this thread, although my sailing days are long over.

My 1973 A25 had no HIN. I was assigned one by the State of Washington and etched it into the upper starboard corner of the transom. Real o-fish-ul looking, too, I might add.

Yes, I guess a 1971 boat could lack a HIN, but in theory any boat imported on or after November 1st 1972 would have been obliged to have one, so maybe your 1973 was really a 1972? Or maybe the regulation was not enforced. My experience of dealing with the seemingly humorless officials policing US Customs enforcement seems to make the latter unlikely.
