Battery configuration on 97 28TE with Peninsular engine.
Looking for ideas about battery configuration. Starting 2nd season with boat. The current setup is a 4T and a group 31. I’ve heard the Peninsular requires 1600 cca to start it. I am thinking about a new setup with 3 group 31 AGMs. Two 31’s in tandem for starting and one 31 for house. My on hook power needs are minimal, mostly day trips and fishing. Do you think the one 31 is enough for house? Any other ideas?

I would never have 1 battery for house, but I come from the liveaboard
side, more is better.
If you only use the tub as a day-boat, is should be ok, I guess.

On my Peninsular powered 28, I have two 27 dual purpose for starting
8d house, where the generator would be.
I added the house battery bank, when I replace the starting bank they will be starting batteries not dual
And 31’s if I can fit them,,

I have a single Group 31 starting battery and 2x 6V T-105 golf cart batteries for house in my motor box 28TE. (All AGM). The Group 31 starts a Cummins 6B just fine and the golf cart house bank has the capacity of an 8D but does not take a crane and/or hernia to get in & out.

We have 3 Group 27 batteries - 1 engine and 2 house. All are on the equipment platform below the helm. No complaints. Beer stays cold.

Thanks. I like the idea of replacing the 4D with 2 - 6 volt for house. Still need 1600 CCA for starting. Probably will use 2- 31’s unless someone has a better idea. I will need to create some space for them.
