Trouble identifying an oil fed stern gland
Hi,
I am desperately trying to identify the stern gland fitted to my A25.
The previous owner can’t recall the brand but thinks it takes any engine oil and that’s why he bought it but he can’t be sure and he is in his mid to late 70’s, I’m 51 and struggle remembering things now lol.
I’m trying to look online but not having much joy but maybe one of you recognise the model or can point me to the right site?
Any help would be appreciated.

The person you need to ask is Stefan at Albin Motor. He sells many or the original parts for both Albin Motors and Albin Boats.

He began his career as an employee at Albin and he is the goto guy for knowledgeable information.

Thanks dkirsop, I'll email him and see if he can help, failing that I'll just have to go with the engine oil.

Re: Trouble identifying an oil fed stern gland
I had looked at a 1989 Duffy that had a similar gland except mineral oil was used. I'll see if I can dig up the info.

Thanks, so far I've been told not to use mineral oil and a few others, most of the others is because heat or viscosity but still pretty much at a loss presently.

Re: Trouble identifying an oil fed stern gland
2 people at Albin Motor got back to me, both have said SAE90 outboard gear oil one, one said I could use SAE 80/90 but stressed the 90 so I have ordered 5 litres of the 90. Thanks for all the advice and hopefully I'll get some boating done soon, if they lift the lock down.

5 Litres! That is enough for you and the next 4 owners' lifetimes.

Lol can't help myself as I don't see the point in paying £10 for 1 litre when you can get 5 for £21, it'll get used for outboards too.

A man after my own heart! Trouble is I would forget I'd bought it when I next needed SAE90 and buy it again anyway.

Re: Trouble identifying an oil fed stern gland
Lol! Well it's just as well I bought extra as it's been going through quite a bit. At first we thought it was just the packing having dried out then it carried on, emptying the whole resevoir in about 2 hours. After ehaustive checks for leaks it seems that, although very tight, that one of the jubilee clips had a little more to tighten. It's improved a lot and have tightenend even more now and will check on the new trip out. Hopefully it'll be all good.
