Stop Solenoid

Post by rebuckley »

So I am not sure here - I am guessing it is simply loosed over time - but my stop solenoid on the Lehman 120 - engages on the push of the stop switch - it just seems not enough to kill the engine. This week it would not stop. I took the but end of a hammer and pushed on the valve it engages until the engine died out. I assume my fix it to adjust the solenoid - and make it a bit tighter? But could this be something else? I can add pics if needed, but I assume these 120's are all the same.

Yes try adjusting/tightening it first. Sometimes corrosion on the shaft will prevent it from going full travel.
You might also want to check voltage at the solenoid while the switch is being pushed.
I had a stop switch on my ex boat go bad. It simply wore out (go figure).
Worst case you may have to get a new solenoid from American Diesel.
