Replacing 3/4” seacocks

Post by furball »

I have two 3/4” Buck Algonquin seacocks that have stripped threads and rounded handle shafts that i need to replace. Should I have a through hull wrench on the underside of the through hull when I take the valve off or is it safe to remove without the support to the hull fitting?
Thanks,

John

Just for peace of mind I'd put a wrench on the hull fitting. I'm guessing you're going to need to apply a good amount of force to spin the valve off.

Agreed. This prior thread includes the thru hull tool from Buck ..... amongst a few other things!

You don't need to buy a special tool. Anything you can wedge in there such as a piece of steel stock, open end wrench, etc., and an adjustable to hold it will work. Be creative.
