Re: Best engine brand
ones that have been properly maintained and cared for. each has its likes and dislikes. Yanmars and Cummins historically have better resale values, but don't let a properly cared for motor scare you because of its brand.

Re: Best engine brand
Agree. We're happy with our 1986 vintage Yanmar 3GM30F which now has over 3,000 hours on it, of which we added 563 of those hours on it since we bought our boat in 2014. It runs like a top, doesn't smoke or burn an excess amount of oil. Some of things to consider include cost and availability of spare parts. For the larger trawlers, Ford Lehmans have a good rep. Betas, which are marinized Kubuta tractor engines are also popular. For the Albin 25 their original installed engines were Volvos, and for the very early models Albin built their own engine, the AD21. So probably the majority of A25s have Volvos, with a variety of other makes installed on re-power jobs...don't let a properly cared for motor scare you because of its brand.

Re: Best engine brand
Expo guy, are you looking for a boat or talking about one you already own?
PS, we like Dana Point. Back in 2012 when we used to have a Catalina 25 sailboat we harbor hopped up from Chula Vista on San Diego Bay to San Pedro with stops in Mission Bay, Oceanside, Dana Point, Newport Beach, and thence from San Pedro to Catalina Island. Dana was one of our favorite stops. In fact on the way back we ran straight from Avalon to Dana. Motored the whole way on that leg due to light winds.
