2017 Peninsular 6.5L Wont start after running.

Post by larryl »

I have a 2017 Peninsular in my Albin 28. it has 29 hrs on it. When I start it cold it starts instantly. after running it for an hour when the engine is at temp It wont start. It turns over and eventually just before the batter is about to give out it starts. I am afraid to go anywhere and get stuck. I have a mechanic coming to look at it, but was wondering if anyone has had similar problem. Fuel Pump? or electrical? If anyone has had a similar problem. I would appreciate some help. LarryL

Fuel drainback perhaps?
Does anyone know if this engine has a fuel enrichment system for cold starts?

Here is a link to a previous discussion of this topic. Maybe someone with experience will respond and offer good advice. In the meantime this will give you something to think about.

I would think that issue would be resolved in the last 22 years. But, could there be a wire disconnected somewhere?
My boat is 22 years old! I never even think about that.

Do you still preheat with the glo plugs. Even when the engine has been running if I shut it off I have to run the glo plugs for 8-10 sec before starting

Having just looked at Unique's website I can't understand why you would hesitate to call them. They explicitly say that they will work with any owner of a marine diesel purchased from Penninsular, have access to all of the original records and can get advice from the former owners.

Beyond that - given the very low hours on your engine I think John's point of a bad connection is certainly possible. Who did the install? Can you contact them?

I have found Unique Diesel to be a great source of replacement parts, they have really picked up where Peninsular left off, I just replaced my Turbo, they sent me the correct exhaust elbow and the gasket after I texted him pictures of mine, and it all arrived in three or four days by fed ex! He knows his stuff, seems very certain of what you need as you talk to him, Good luck,,
