Albin 31 TE Drain Tank

Post by TheCaptain891 »

Hello AOG,

I've found the 31 TE I've been looking for. Now I need to figure out all the systems. First on my list is to drain and flush my fresh water tank.

Can anyone tell me the preferred way of draining the tank? Is there A petcock some where on the tank that I'm not seeing, or do I need to just turn all the faucets on - it seems like a lot of unnecessary wear and tear on the fresh water pump.

Thanks in advance

No extra drains for the tank. Open your faucets and have at it. No worries. The only drain is on the hot water tank for draining down the 6 gallon tank for winter layup if in climates that are prone to freezing.

Congrats on the new boat .. post up a couple of pictures.

Open faucets and drain. It's a good idea to sanitize the lines and tank 1-2 times per year with bleach. Here's the link from Jamestown Distributors on how to do it:

Be careful with the Aluminum water tanks in the 31TE. Bleach, though a great sanitizer for plastic and stainless steel tanks, is a very bad idea in aluminum tanks. Even a small amount will cause the aluminum to oxidize leaving aluminum oxide crystals throughout the tank. Municipal water with chlorine treatment will also cause the tanks to oxidize. Be careful.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I never knew about the bleach and aluminum issue, I've always had plastic tanks.

Since we're on plumbing theme does anyone know where my hot water tank is on a 2000 31 TE?

Conveniently  located under the dinette table. Access is by removing the table and access hatch beneath. I access the tank annually to bypass it when winterizing.
