Oil cooler blues

Post by DCatSea »

Apologies for what my people call "The Bleeding Obvious" but this is what an old, badly corroded oil cooler looks like. The copper is pink and has a "soft texture" to it. Got to it as part of a super-service, with former Lehman mechanic (well known to the local head boat fleet and ADC, a real find BTW).
On Mazboot the cooler is under the engine, so out of sight, out of mind for 30+ years. The danger of course is that this thing could "go" at the most inopportune moment (is there any other?), resulting in loss of coolant and/or oil.
I have ordered a replacement and will post pix of new cooler before and after install.

I will also be fitting new hydraulic hoses. Nipples on old cooler and engine are good and reusable.
