I know this is an old thread but I'll comment on my setup. I have a conventional submersible under the cabin sole, and another one right up against the fuel tank under the harmonic balancer of the engine. That one seems to be accessible by some kind of long aluminum bracket screwed into the bulkhead just forward of the fuel tank. Then I also have the manual pump and the diaphragm pumps as well. From what I have read here on the forums and elsewhere the point of this pump was to get the water level down lower than the regular submersibles can. However, my diaphragm pump is siezed up and will probably need a new motor. Not sure if it is worth the investment.

I've replaced the most forward pump with I think a rule 800 or 1000. I've purchased a new Rule 1500 to replace the one under the engine, but will need to run a bigger thru hull to accommodate it.

I love how these 28's came with four pumps by the way... the way a boat should be built.

In my briefing before we head out I show and explain the manual save your arse pump. The pickup for it is in the keel area.

I have two switches: Bilge and Sump. Bilge works. No idea where sump is or whether it ever had a pump installed on that circuit.

Sump typically refers to something like a bathroom shower sump pump
