Advancing age of both boat and owner usually accounts for the reason most dedicated Albin 25 owners eventually put their boats up for sale. Our experience in hauling ex-La Dolce Vita up to Olympia, Washington and listing on consignment with through Capital City Yachts broker last year was mainly due to the fact that there's virtually no market for an Albin 25 here in the Arizona desert since lake boater here are either bass fishermen, water skiers, adrenaline addicts that feel the need for speed, houseboat owners, or owners of large motor yachts who spend most of their time docked in the marina. Ours went up for sale on May 21st, 2024, almost exactly a year ago. We had hopes for an reasonably quick sale for a starting price of $24,000 as several other Albin 25's had sold for around that price including that of WillieC. Rick, the owner of WillieC lives in the Seattle area so he was able to sell his boat himself.

Well since then the used boat market has tanked, what with inflation, economic conditions, and higher loan interest rates. I quick check on the broker's web site shows far fewer listing that they had this time last year, mostly high dollar boats. It ended up taking us until September 6 last year to finally sell the boat for $18,500, netting $14,500 after paying the broker $4,000 in commissions, not counting storage costs in between.

That buyer was from Carson City, NV, but in the end he and his wife found they had bitten off more than they could chew, and hauled the boat, now named Sail La Vie, to Palm Beach FL and gave it to a 40 something nephew. Where all that will go from here who knows, whether the nephew decides to keep or sell it in the near future remains to be seen.

uptank001, we had our boat out to Delaware & the Chesapeake Bay ten years ago in 2015, launching on the Nanticoke River from the marina in Blades, DE.

Here's a couple pics docked for a lunch stop at Vienna, MD on the Nanticoke.

I followed your Chesapeake cruise planning to follow someday.
I did launch in Norfolk cruising the Dismal Swamp but my plan was 30 days to Naples!
Dreams keep us going, I very lucky to have accomplished most.

Hope you are doing well and happy you are still offering your vast knowledge to us owners.

An Albin 25 will sell for what you can convince a buyer to pay. These are such old boats in such varied conditions from Bristol to basket case with various mods done over the years that every example is unique. My posts from 2018 and this year still holds true. At the current time the used boat market is rather soft. Cash talks and if wishes were horses beggars would ride. They buyer is in control. Last May 21st, 2024 we put our well cared for 1971 full displacement A25 on consignment with a broker in Olympia, WA. That's about as close to an ideal location for a boat of this type as you could imagine. We started listing at $24,000 with specs shown in my signature below including like new 2015 Gig Harbor Nisqually 8 ft hard shell dinghy on Garhauer lift davits, a 2 stroke 2.5 HP Tohatsu outboard, the optional mast and sail rig, on a robust aluminum trailer. It took until September 6th to make a sale with price reduced to $18,900 before broker commission and we were lucky to get that.
