Today is a bittersweet day - my Albin’s for sale
Hi all -
Yup. I did it. My Albin 25 is officially for sale.
Long story short:
I chose to purchase and rebuild my boat for the entire Hetek family to enjoy. I had an Albin 27FC but no trailer. I priced one and it was way too much. Superstorm Sandy taught me a lesson. I needed a more manageable trailer boat - an Albin 25, with a trailer was the answer.
I started this project 8 years ago. My kids were 13, 15 and 17 at the time. They are now 21, 23 and 25. One is living at home and in college, one is not living at home and finishing college and the oldest is employed, engaged and living with her fiancé. Boating with dad seems to have lost its luster.
As you can tell, the Hetek household is a bit all over the map. My family's priorities have changed, for the better actually. I'm OK with it.
That said... Here ya go...

I was hoping to get to meet you and see it! Sad to se it be sold but as you wrote, priorities change. It must be the nicest looking A25 in the USA. I wish you good luck with the sale.

Re: Today is a bittersweet day
It’s all good, Ulf. Happy thoughts!
I’m still putting her in the water - dockage is paid for the season. I’ll go for my “after work mini cruise” solo, now and then. Won’t put many hours on but will help unwind the day.
When I was a kid I would crew for my dad on his sailboat. Our sails became fewer and far between for various reasons. Life happens - I’m living proof!
Besides, helping the kids with college and a wedding far outweighs the need for a boat right now. And my wife just blew out her knee and will be wearing a “robo-cop” brace for the near future. There goes my crew for the season.
I get half the fun and enjoyment of boating working on and restoring them. Mission accomplished! One might say she’s better now than the day she left the factory.
The boat, not the wife.
(Just kidding, dear!)

Jon, you have a great attitude! Whatever lucky person buys your boat is getting a great deal. She's just gorgeous.

Re: Today is a bittersweet day - my Albin’s for sale
She is getting launched today, with my son’s assistance. Bottom is painted, trailer and boat are legal, stranger’s boat is finally out of my slip (or should be by tonight). All systems go!
We call the Peconic Bay, on the eastern end of Long Island her home. Specifically, Albertson’s Marine in Southold.
The Peconic Bay is between the north and south “forks” of Long Island. The south fork is “the Hamptons” and Montauk. The north fork is Southold town and Orient Point. Shelter Island is in between the forks.
My usual go-to “3 hour tour” is to circumnavigate Shelter Island. Just haven’t had 3 hours to spend this year but we are going to try our best.

Re: Today is a bittersweet day - my Albin’s for sale
We have mot had the chance to go out in the LIS this summer. We did one trip from Waterford to Ft Edwards a few weeks back. On Friday we are pulling it to Brewerton for two weeks on Western Erie. The plan was to do the whole canal but it has been closed and is backed up by loopers. Hopefully we can do a cross sound trip later if you still have it. Its a daytrip across going through plum gut.

Re: Today is a bittersweet day - my Albin’s for sale
Ulf,
Today is Tues, July 1st. so I assume you're on the canal somewhere west of Brewerton? Great memories of when we met up on the canal in 2021 and the trip to the Corning museum. Is that 4 years ago already? Time is flying by too fast. If you get a chance to take the cut over to Liverpool on the east shore of Onondaga Lake that's a good place to tie up at the marina for a night or two. Grocery store & restaurants are an easy walk from the marina. It's a nice little town with bus service in to Syracuse. That's as far east as we ever got on the Erie, was just so hot, muggy, & rainy we decided to hole up in Liverpool, go into Syracuse to rent a car, drive back to Tonawanda & pick up truck & trailer to haul out & head home. Since we sold La Dolce Vita last September ex-La Dolce Vita is now renamed "Ruby D" and resides in Loxahatchee, FL a few miles inland from West Palm Beach on the east coast of Florida.
Jon B,
Any luck finding a buyer yet? Would be a good deal for someone, especially if the marina slip was transferable.

Re: Today is a bittersweet day - my Albin’s for sale
Looks like many of us have been landlocked this year, awful weather, mechanical issues, family stuff, local water tragedies, and of course lack of time. We've only had a couple of local day trips so far with plenty of tree-flotsam-dodging as most of West Virginia came floating down the river whenever we wanted to get out. A bit exciting but tiring.
But, as you say: "I get half the fun and enjoyment of boating working on and restoring them". I might add: also buying new "you can never have enough" tools and boat-bling, and Mazboot has benefited from a few makeover bits and bobs this year - small stuff mainly - and has kept me off of street corners.
Hopefully the Post-Fourth-in-DC season will pick up and we'll be able to get out a bit more in the weeks to come, before setting off on a six-week road trip in late September, then home for some good Fall trips.
Happy 4th to all.

DA -
No sale yet. A few nibbles though. No bites.
Fun fact: Daughters’ weddings are expensive! Ask me how I know.
Might have to lower the price of the Albin to pay for the caterer! (If interested, we can talk.)
Dock is paid for the season and is transferable. Also, so is Seatow coverage - paid up until this time next year.
And… I may have a deal on boat transport, if needed. (I know a guy).
The Albin is in the water and my son and I have taken a few day trips in local waters, weather and work schedules permitting.
For sale posting in the “Swap/Trade/Sell” category of this site. Link to it is in the my first post, above.
Anyone? Anyone?… Bueller? Bueller?… Frye? Frye?
(Never mind Ferris…. I need a day off!)
