28TE - How old are your exhaust hoses?

Post by swhfire21 »

I noticed that the exhaust outlet (port side) on my new to me 28TE was leaking and the bolts were corroded when I surveyed her, so I pulled the outlet this week. While I was in there I figured I might as well pull and replace the exhaust hose between the outlet and the muffler. All of this exhaust hose was original (2004) and severly dry rotted as shown in the pics.

How many people are running around on original or old exhaust hose? I imagine a lot of people are, as this hose is very hard to get at and is out of sight.

Oh, by the way. It turned out that only 3 of the 6 screws in the exhaust outlet were actually anchored to anything.

Swapped mine out last year and replaced it with silicon. Other than that I’d imagine it was 24 years old!

I did mine on my 02 right before I sold it. It just got done on my 2006 31 and was in similar condition to yours. Well past its time! Pretty scary stuff and it’s out of sight out of mind. Good on you for being diligent

Was the silicone more flexible? Its a pretty tight bend sliding it in and past the fuel tank. It took quite a while and a sawzaw (to cut the hose up) in to get it out.

Still awkward to fit but certainly easier than standard exhaust hose. Just make sure it’s exhaust rated silicon hose.
