6LPA seawater pump access

Post by swhfire21 »

I'm eyeing up the seawater pump in my 28TE and am wondering if its possible or worthwile to try and pull the impellor without removing the entire pump. The space between the face plate and the engine mount looks less than optimal. Any thoughts?

Also, are there any tricks to getting the search to work? Every time I include the word pump in my search string it just says that the words are too common. Frustrating, as I'm sure this question has been asked before.

I'm sure someone will be along with guidance on impeller replacement. I think the general wisdom is that it's easier to pull the entire pump.

As for the search, yes, some words are too short or common for the forum software. Use google search instead, e.g. "albinowners.net: pump" (without the quotes). And that may give you some ideas how to narrow down the results.

You will need to take the pump off to remove the impeller. All other versions of this engine, Toyota, Yamaha, Nanni have the pump on the opposite side where the other belts and pulleys are. Just undo the two nuts holding it on (often the studs undo) and slide it off. Fitting back is a little tricky as you need to line the helical gear up with the studs but just be patient.

Thanks for the response. I figured that was the answer on the seawater pump. The prevous owner had a Jabsco impellor (I don't have model handy) on board that was supposed to be his spare. Does this sound right?

absolutely agree, the pump has to come off the remove and replace the impeller.
