Post by Kingarthur »

Just figured I would post this as I the bluefin start to run here in the northeast!

Albin is a great platform for running after these tuna.

See you guys run out of Long Island. Where abouts? I’m looking to upgrade my shamrock to an Albin and was wondering how you like it for running off the island? Pm me if you have the time to talk a bit.

lplax13,

So yes we fish and boat off Long Island now. We started in the Long Island sound with the albin and eventually moved it to the east end north fork. I grew up with the boat and learned to run a single screw Yanmar very well. Our family used it for all sorts of things but primarily fishing nearshore. We gained confidence in the engine and single screw on many long transits throughout the area (Newport, block island, Hudson River, etc.). The boat preforms very well drifting for fluke and seabass and working rips like the gut, race, or MTK. We used it to get out to the nearshore grounds 20-40 miles for bluefin and yellowfin and she handles wonderfully. She will not be the boat to race out and back for a 3 hour quick trip at that range. When the weather kicks up she will eat it up but don’t expect to go 20kts unless you have the larger HP engines that some of them have had installed. The Pilothouse is a great feature and we made it work so at least three people could talk inside when underway. As you can see the boat catches fish. Trolling the wake is clean and our engine box was modified to have a rocket launch and bait prep station. She is fairly stable at rest with the skeg. I will say we have been in some skinny water throwing plugs for bass but obviously she does not excell here. Depending on the inlets you would be leaving out of there might be some pluses or minus to the platform with the moving shoals but will also say that is the great thing about the skeg to protect the running gear. Let me know if you have any other questions.
