I am planning to haul and trailer my new to me 04 28 TE, Yanmar 6LPA-STP engine.
I have been reading about drain or not to drain raw water?
Is there actually a risk of sea water sloshing back into the turbo while traveling down the road?
If so what is the best way to drain. Will the raw pump be left dry and is that bad? I am having all the coolers removed and cleaned, new timing belt, fresh water pump, and valves adjusted prior transport. Any more suggestions? How about raw water pump/impeller, mixing elbow?
Thanks.

Re: raw water in turbo prevention?
I would tip the bow up in the Travelift until water runs out the exhaust. And then I'd keep the boat level at a minimum, preferably bow up. Don't let it go into a bow down position unless you're certain the exhaust system is empty.

Re: raw water in turbo prevention?
ok Thanks. How do I drain the exhaust system? Will disconnecting the raw water hose at the transmission cooler drain the exhaust system?

Someone else will have to help with that...it's over my pay scale.

Re: raw water in turbo prevention?
OK thanks. Some say this is not a real concern? And I'm wondering why would they design a system that could have that risk?
I'll check with my mechanic. Thanks again.

Re: raw water in turbo prevention?
Many mufflers have a drain plug, don't know how the 28 TE muffler access is but it should be there. I know of one firsthand incident of a 32+2 that was hauled for shipping nose down and upon launch the engine was seized due to saltwater ingress from the muffler.
Not necessary to drain the raw water cooling circuit- the issue is water pooling in the muffler then splashing back upstream when tilted.
