Hello all
I'm currently working on my 28TE on the hard. I have an available 15A home outlet available. While waiting for my marinco adapter, I charged the batteries the day before with a automotive alligator clamp style charger (2 group 27 and an 8D ) I plugged the 30A shore power cord into a marinco adapter. Got ac panel to light up, fridge comes on, can't get Charles battery charger to wake up (amp guage / needle doesn't move. It's on 5A even when off and won't move when I hit breaker switch.
So my question is: does the battery charger need to see a true 30A shore power connection to work or is it just probably broken?
I went on Charles website for some info but unfortunately they stopped making chargers.
Thanks in advance!

Re: 15A home power to 30A shore power
I'm 98% certain that the battery charger does not need a 30 amp shore power connection.
I'm sure there's a way to test it with a multimeter, but that's way above my pay grade.
When is the last time the battery charger worked? I can't remember if the boat is new to you.
Years ago, pre-Albin, we ditched a Charles charger the first chance we got. It was highly touted, and it crapped out within a few years. Humbug.
You can put a little blurb about your boat in a signature blurb in your Profile in the User Control Panel.

Re: 15A home power to 30A shore power
We had a Charles charger on our aft cabin Albin 32 for a decade, it was the standard on commercial small craft in mid- coast Maine (coast guard approved). Did not require 30 amps, 15 was fine, they unfortunately left the market a few years ago.

Put a multimeter on it and confirm if it's getting voltage to the charger. It should work fine, especially on the 5amp setting.
