EVA foam decking

Post by Connormike73 »

The survey on my Albin 28 revealed possible delam of two deck hatches likely due to water intrusion. I Really want to install seadek
Should I hold off and re core hatches 1st even if they haven't failed yet?

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike -- My knee-jerk reaction would be that Sea-Dek should be installed on good, solid surfaces. A dockmate experienced a failed swim platform due to water intrusion that was disguised by the beautiful Sea-Dek on top. The situation was probably exacerbated by our freeze/thaw cycles. But it was definitely hidden until it was too late to repair.

Mike, it occurred to me that the Sea-Dek installer could provide guidance.

From experience, you will want to recore those hatches first, then apply the foam decking.
