Replacing the head

I've searched the site a bit, and haven't found my answer!

I'm replacing the head/toilet in my 1985 27 SC (single cabin,). The previous unit is long gone, so I can't measure it for the replacement fit.

I'm looking at the Raritan PHII Manual unit.

Does anyone know the size/dimension of the original toilet? Thanks for any response!

My 1989 27 FC has a Jabsco Manual Twist n' Lock toilet. Most 27's seem to have these. It is a very ubiquitous model, and if the local boat store stocks parts it will generally be for this model or portables. You should have a holding tank, which should make a portable less desirable. I couldn't find a drawing quickly, but overall dimensions are easy to find. If all else fails you might ask the local boat store (is there more than one these days?) if you could pull one out of the box and check the bolt pattern.

You may have seen threads about composting toilets, which seems worth exploring. A 20 gallon holding tank needs to be managed on a week+ trip, even using a trucker's bottle to conserve.

On our 28TE, we replaced the Jabsco toilet with a Raritan PHC, which I believe is now called the PH SuperFlush Compact P101. The P101 is the PHII on a compact base. Dimensions and drawings are on both of those links.

Bonus - it now comes with a slow-close lid (ours didn't) - worth buying just for that! As long as it fits, of course.

The best price may be Hodges Marine. The reviews there are worth reading, and one of them says almost exactly what I just did about the lid.

I want to install a manual type, simply replacing the original one. I have a new 20 gallon holding tank ready to be connected.

OK, I ended up purchasing a Johnson Aqua SPX toilet. The fit was important, and although only very slightly... the width was the smallest that I could find. Neasly every unit I could find seemed to be about 17 1/2 in. wide. Is this some kind of standard?

Also important was the price... the Raritan P101 was just over $300 plus shipping from Hodges Marine, and through Amazon Prime the SPX cost was under $140 with free shipping.

Installation is a ways off. The clearance in the head floor is about 17 1/2 in. so I’ll probably have to cut a small notch out of the bulkhead.
