New owners 32+2!

Post by Luvinlife »

My wife and I closed on a beautiful 2002 32+2 yesterday in nice shape with low hours. This is our “forever boat” and we are extremely excited. I know I’m going to have a lot of questions on winterizing and systems as we learn more about the boat. Thanks in advance! I’ve been a member on this site for a number of years, waiting to find my perfect boat. Finally did!

Well it’s spring here in New England and the shrink wrap is off. I am having the bottom soda blasted after 22 years of paint, then a barrier coat and ablative paint. I’m also going to have her vinyl wrapped in similar blue (as the hull is badly oxidized). I’ve heard the pros and cons on vinyl wrapping and I’m willing to give it a go. Also replacing some interior lights and bought all new navy blue lines and fleece for the fenders. Hoping to splash by mid May.

We are in process of purchasing a 2003 A35 (32+2) CB. It looks very much like yours. We have a slip in Groton, CT and will likely frequent Block Island and other RI anchorages. Maybe we’ll see you and compare notes!

We will be on Block from July 3 - 8, anchored off of dinghy beach with a bunch of boats. Let me know if you will be there at that time. I’d love to see your boat.

Okay here’s an update. The bottom came out great, took it down to the original barrier coat and changed it from red to black. The 3M vinyl was installed in two days including the stripes and her new name. Season 1 is winding down here in New England. The boat has been fantastic! Runs flawlessly and has been a joy to drive. We’ve been on more many offshore trips and enjoy the sea handling and the space inside. So far the vinyl wrap has held up nicely. Looks great, not a scratch so far. We’ve rafted often with other boats and docked dozens of times with no mishaps! Very happy camper here.

Legasea -- she looks great! May I ask how the cost of vinyl wrap compares to paint?

Well, Legasea, she is beautiful!
Hope you had a great time at Block Island! I will watch for you next year. We will pull out mid October to winterize and some maintenance. We are very happy with ours too! Thanks for the update!

The cost of the vinyl wrap, including the name and stripes was $3,400. I admit I was sceptical about vinyl. It’s supposed to last 5-7 years under normal wear. So far so good,it is still shiny and unscathed, but it’s just 6 months since install. Awlgtrip was $550 a foot and would require 2 weeks.

Definitely worth a try at that price spread! Assuming a 10-year life span for Awlgrip (?), the vinyl will pay for itself in less than 3 years.

Legasea, wow! She looks fine!
We just pulled out 10/10 and doing our first winterizing. Learning, learning, learning this new to us boat. It looks good on the hard too!
Now the fun projects begin. LOL

We are staying in the water for a few more weeks. Just changed the oil and filters on the engine and generator. Planning a trip to Newport Rhode Island this weekend for three days for the seafood festival. Then one more weekend on the boat and we will take her out on October 29.
