Zincs

Post by JoeH »

2004 Albin28 TE FD Just started replacing zincs, for some reason I was looking at my surveyor's report of 2005 and noted he suggested installing a zinc on the bronze skeg shoe. I've never done this, however has anybody ever installed said zinc and if so how and which type zinc was used.

Thanks in advance, and have a great season. Hope to see some of you at the Boston rendezvous. :D

As the rudder makes a metal to metal contact with the skeg the skeg should be protected by the rudder zinc. But you could purchase a small rectangular zinc and install it if you wish. I am not sure I would want to drill any holes in the skeg though. By the way, I purchased Bennett trim tab zincs from boatzincs.com at $16/pair and each one can be cut in half to give two zincs that will fit on the 23kgf Vetus bow thruster in place of the $30 Vetus BP129 zinc.
