28 TE Bow Rail removal ?

Post by Bigsteve51 »

I had my 28 TE hit a pole at my bulkhead and it cracked / Broke the weld at the rail and plate that mounts the rail to the deck. I tried removing a screw holding the plate down to see if i would be able to remove the rail and take it to my friends shop to weld. Well typical Albin nothing is easy the screw would turn with great effort but not come out, i think that there are nuts holding the screws.

Has anyone tried to remove the rail if so how did you do it?? I am not too excited about welding the rail is-situ figure it would cause some damage to the fiberglasss.

Bummer about the damage. The flanges are thru-bolted. See this thread - viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13497&p=90997&hilit=bow+rail#p90997

Thanks for the reply, ended taking the overhead trim around the berth apart and was able to get to the nuts holding the rail on and get the mounting plates off. Had local welder weld everything back up just getting access was the hardest part of the job......
