A25 for sale

Post by WillieC »

Well, here we are. The mighty WillieC is for sale.

I'll update this post in the next day or so with AI doctored images (not really) but those of you who know us and this special A25 deserve first shot. We are starting at $29,500 which comes with a lot we will detail soon, but note it has a trailer.

We are moving...sideways? More aging-accessible? A bit newer, but full of its own issues? Yes, to all, but the original A25 design is very tough to beat.

We are starting high mainly to make sure we do our part to keep inflation high (JK again, but you AOGers already know that about me) but mainly to help fund our increasingly expensive habit. We will also be installing a tip jar on whatever dock we find ourselves in our travels. Tours and happy hour will be arranged through Ticketmaster. Boats aren't cheap.

I'll save my farewell tears for later. AOG has made all this possible...ok, tears already.

This is a somber note on what is already an overcast day. I am sure you will find a buyer and hope your new boat is everything you need to continue your adventures. Cant'd wait to see your new Albin 30!

30?? What?? You think we're made of money?!

The friends we have made here belong to us, not the boat. We aren't going away.

1973 Albin 25 Deluxe in very good condition
$29,500 (includes double axle galvanized King trailer)
Please read entire ad carefully – there is a lot of info here to answer your questions!
If the ad is up it is still available. You don’t need to ask 😊
This is an incredibly fun and hand-able fiberglass pocket cruiser/troller/trawler. Swedish built (think North Sea) – sometimes described as “the VW Westfalia of the sea” – it can sleep 4, and cannot be beat for safety, economy (sips .66 gph@6 knots), and comfort. She’s taken us from Olympia to the San Juans through the Canadian Gulf Islands, and on to Princess Louisa Inlet and Desolation Sound. We’ve crossed the Strait of Georgia several times…this boat can take much more than we ever could! These ultrasafe Albin 25 family cruisers have a bit of a following in the PNW – and this boat makes friends wherever she goes!
We have been over every inch of this boat, and know her strengths well; there are many, many upgrades. It’s a complete package for PNW cruising. This might be a way for you to get into boating like we did (first time boaters 10 years ago), or to downsize - to one of the best Albin 25s available. We are sad to see her go - we love this boat! - but it’s time for some different adventures for us.

Equipment: radar (2022), plotter, VHF radio with AIS receiver, N2K backbone, new antenna
Tankage: fuel 20 gals with inspection port; two additional 5-gallon diesel jugs; potable water 25 gals; holding 13 gals (plus 5 gallons on Dometic toilet)
Layout: FORWARD: galley, head and v berth. PILOT HOUSE-CABIN: helm with bench seating, additional bench seating, several table options, cooler cabinet, storage. AFT: sleeps 2, or use for storage, or a separate little space for chillin’.
Maintenance & upgrades:
- 36 hp Volvo Penta MD17C – less than 500 hours on overhauled top end (2019-2020: new pistons/sleeves, valves and guides, rod bearings, injectors and pump serviced by H&H Diesel in Tacoma), meticulous regular maintenance (oil changes, valve adjustment, freshwater flush, etc.), replaced hoses, rebuilt seawater pump with speedseal kit and refurbished spare pump, new seawater strainer
-installed fuel tank access port, fuel tank drained and cleaned (2023)
-new stainless exhaust elbow (2023)
-wiring cleaned up and LED lighting installed, anchor light with photocell
-extra sound deadening material added to engine cover and surrounding floor area
-1” thick rubber floor mat in pilothouse (helps with sound deadening too)
-the enviable “BC hard top”, fully refurbished (2022)
--cleats and exterior grab bars are galvanized (installed 2022), so no labor intensive brightwork
-v berth sleeps 2; aft cabin can be set up for massive storage, or can sleep 2 crosswise - or in separated ¼ berths
-new gray Sunbrella canvas and Strataglass with shades (2022)
-new Garmin radar; heading sensor; Balmar alternator and regulator; two 6-volt deep cycle batteries, and spare 12v start battery; Victron battery monitor (2022)
-5 gal Dometic head with MSD and gulper electric pump to transfer to 13 gal holding tank (uses minimal water to flush, fills up holding tank less quickly, no fuss, no muss, ZERO odors)
-unique custom cedar wood ceiling in the pilot house (installed in 2022, not in any other Albin 25)
-custom wood storage cabinet for cooler; additional custom cabinet storage in V and salon
-new diesel heater (2022)
-hatch in hard top roof, great for air flow, and standing up at helm
-includes King double axle trailer for towing, easy launching and retrieval, and storing on the hard (no full-time moorage expense)
-roof rack for stowing (not towing) dinghy (dinghy not included)
- 2 anchors; 200’ anchor rode, 30’ anchor chain, new 2021
-2 burner Origo stove that uses Denatured Alcohol (propane removed) – extremely safe and easy to use
-rebuilt manual windlass
-visually appealing gray wide stripe at gunwale
-hull is in nearly pristine shape, no bashes; new bottom paint (2022)
-new prop, and a spare
-comes with: dock lines, fenders, boat hook, white life ring, small used Force 10 propane cannister grill
-other miscellaneous items are negotiable (spare engine, transmission, prop, shaft, rebuilt raw water pump – too many to mention!)
-this boat can be easily single-handed
-stored on the hard on the trailer, and covered, when not in water

Your to do’s:
-will need deck paint refresh
-interior cushions are clean and serviceable, but have not been recovered
Next steps:
Boat is viewable now on the trailer, by appointment only.
We are located on Hood Canal, 6 miles from Belfair on NE North Shore Road.
Price includes double axle King trailer with tie down strap. (We tow the boat with an F250 diesel -- sorry, truck is NOT for sale).
We will launch for sea-trial prior to purchase with agreed upon amount of earnest money.
To complete the sale, you wire funds and we sign over clean titles for boat and trailer.

Thank you for looking!

Tell me it isn't so! Will never forget the good times on the 2018 Desolation Sound cruise. (YouTube video on 72 Terramar Del Rey channel).

It's a big secret but it rhymes with N(an)Cy.

OK that was bad. We are NOT succumbing to two-foot-itis. It'a a Nordic Tug 26. We flew to Juneau a couple weeks ago to look at number 00, the prototype, as opposed to 01, the first NT26. We had a blast. Met some amazing people, stayed in a lovely B&B hosted by a delightful young couple. The people were so nice, I kept thinking we were in Canada, but they kept taking my cash and not giving me a huge discount. We did get out on Chloe (00) for a stunning couple of hours in Gastineau Channel. The hard part was figuring how to get the boat back down here closer to home. Oh we thought of making an adventure of it, but it has taken me ten years to fully know and trust the WillieC. I may be slow, but I'm old.

We have looked at most of them in our area that we thought were in our price range. Turns out there are a few, but most of them are not in my time range. I don't want to work on another boat for ten years to get it just right. So we adjusted our price range to the five year plan.

I have read of and talked to more than one former A25 owner who moved up to substantially bigger boats than the 26 and now wish they had kept the 25. Woulda, shoulda, coulda. As you all know I have loved our first and only little boat and it has opened up the waters I have lived near but rarely been on my entire life. But now it is somebody else's turn while I retire to the leatherette divan in the ballroom and listen to the guy with the tip jar tickling the ivories next to the fully stocked bar. Ok, it's not THAT big, but it feels like it.

More to follow, but my eyes are kinda blurry right now. Must be allergies...

Wow, how exciting! The NT26 looks like a lot of boat for the size. Love your comment about the price range/time range. That's exactly where we were with the purchase of Valentine except you've articulated it much better.

Will you put Chloe on a truck?

I hope you won't be a stranger here.

As for your ad, I recommend posting in the Swap/Trade/Sell section. I could move this thread, but it's drifted a bit much. Your call.

Oh we didn’t purchase Chloe. Too hard to move and a bit more work than I was wanting to do. We found our new boat right here on Hood Canal. Five hours by water at WillieC speed. Or 2.5 at NT turbo speed. (They say the first tank of fuel goes really quickly, then everybody calms down a bit.)

Why couldn’t I find the buy sell trade section? Oh. I didn’t scroll down far enough.

Thanks, Nancy. You always set us straight. In the best way.

There's a lot to be said for buying a boat in your backyard. So many things are simpler. How fast does the new boat cruise? Hope you'll post some photos and continue telling us about your adventures.

Is it legal to post pics of a different marque? I can barely post ANY pictures. We have poked around on NT sites. I'll just say this. This AOG community is really special. We have made several real life friends of folks here. People we talk to by phone (except the time we ran up the bill with international roaming charges on a BC call. That cured THAT method.)

It is funny. Talking to my oldest son tonight reminiscing about our younger days when mom was still with us. We NEVER would have associated with people that own YACHTS, fer cryin out loud! (We raised them poor to instill character, oh, and we were regular working folks.) I am sensing a little of that, oh, you own a Boat...well lah-dee-friggin-dah! No. We worked our buns off. Mom died. I re-married a very smart woman who could squeeze the zinc out of a copper penny. She built a cabin in the woods way back in her day with three other couples. Scraped the bottom of the barrel to do that then we lost it in the Dixie Fire.

The new boat grew out of the lost cabin. This is our R&R. And we love being on the Salish Sea. But we only learned how to do this by having the WillieC. (Named after her granddad who left a small inheritance. The new boat will be Lois Anne. After the Starfleet Commander's mother who died when Heidi was barely twenty. We recognize we are part of something much bigger than just us.)

I did repost in swap, sell, trade AND I managed to turn a couple pics the right way. I've been here ten years and I just figured it out. Thanks, Nancy, for bringing it to my attention. DOH!

It can go fast, maybe 13 kts, but we didn't get that fast at sea trials but it was pretty sloppy when we went out. I won't be going that fast, can't speak for the Starfleet Commander, but she pays the bills (this IS her boat, I just got lucky, in a boat sort of way). We are perfectly happy at 6 or 7 kts.

I'll post some pics when we actually take possession. I am still pinching myself. (We did WHAT?)

Of course you can post photos of the NT!

Love the backstory except for losing a mom way too early and the Dixie fire. Glad something good came of the latter.

Exciting times.
