Well folks, tomorrow my wife drops me off 230 miles away to start off with the new boat. Long Island Sound to Baltimore is just shy of 300 nautical miles (345 street miles). Heck of a maiden voyage.

Congrats! I did a similar voyage last year, although not quite as far north, from Keyport NJ. Took it down the coast to Cape May. Highly recommend Utch's marina for an overnight. Affordable and great service with good food close by too. Then through the Cape May canal, up the Delaware Bay, through the C&D Canal, and down the Chesapeake. It was the experience of a lifetime and really taught me what the boat can handle.

VSBY restrictions in showers and thunderstorms tonight. Winds
and seas locally higher in thunderstorms.

Outlook...

Conditions are forecast to remain below advisory criteria from
Tuesday night through Saturday. Winds mainly from the west to
northwest around 10-15 kts Tuesday night through Wednesday night
becoming northerly on Thursday. Gusts up to 20 kts are possible
on Thursday. Winds will shift northeast to easterly on Friday
then southerly on Saturday. 3 to 4 foot seas Tuesday night will
gradually diminish to around 1 to 2 feet by Thursday evening.



Rip currents...

For the rest of today, with swells remaining quite long with a
14 second period expected, this will enhance the rip risk to
HIGH. As a reminder, many beaches now have limited to no
lifeguards present.

For Tuesday, even though swells remain long with 12 seconds,
waves lower some, so the rip risk will be MODERATE.

Ah yes, there was that time in 2002 I ran Barnegat Inlet in a 15 ft Montgomery sailboat. Motored through against incoming tide with a 3.5 HP outboard.

Well, I made it. Day 1 Huntington Harbor (Long Island, NY) to Liberty Landing (Jersey City). Day 2 to Manasquan River. Day 3 via the ICW to Atlantic City. Day 4 back out into the ocean and down to Cape May, NJ. Day 5 to North Summit Marina on the C&D canal. And day 6 was down to Baltimore. I hired a captain for the first 4 days plus a half a day before to become familiar with the boat and plan. My brother met us in AC and finished the trip together after the captain left after getting to Cape May.

Quite the adventure.

Because it was a new boat to me (my wife and I did a test drive of about 2 hrs a couple weeks before), I got a transient slip every night. The point of the trip was getting it from point a to b. The boat has its quirks that I’ll need to learn or take care of (lack of steerage in reverse being the big one), but in general the boat did great. I’m seeing a lot of great cruising on her.

Nicely done. And smart. When we bought the WillieC we were able to persuade the PO to help us get it Port Orchard. Three days over Thanksgiving weekend several years ago.

This was/is our first/last/only boat. Nine years in and loving our A25.
