Has Albin changed phone numbers & Emails?

Post by Saltdog »

I just emailed Ed:
CUSTOMER SERVICE INQUIRES

ED WINARSKI
Albin Marine
226 West Shore Road.
Portsmouth, RI 02871
(401) 682-1600
(401) 682-1604 Fax

and called his number. The email came back as undeliverable and the phone has been disconnected. I called the company's main number and all I got was a recording. Have I missed something?

Maybe one of you can help me. I am looking for a place to purchase those decorative upholestry snaps that are used on the panels above our companion berths. I have installed rod holders in that space and because of the additional weight of the rods have put in some additional support screws. I can't find the snaps. Have tried West marine as well as three upholetery shops with no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Bad News

Post by RicM »

Bad news TS, Albin went out of business about 6 months ago. There is an extensive thread on the topic on this board, see:

viewtopic.php?t=1311

I'm sure that the buttons were not custom made by Albin elves, however. I would check a custom auto upholstery shop.

The former Albin dealer here in RI is Standish Boat Yard. Ken Hilton is a great guy and his side kick Eddie was a long time Albin employee. Ken used those headliner caps during the installation of my electronics (Had to modify the headliner in the head to make room for some electronics).

If you give Ken a call at 401-624-4075 I'm sure he can help you out and ship you what you need.

I couldn't help but laugh when I read this thread title. I just shook my head and said, "oh boy".

Saltdog,
Very sad here too.
I don't think he meant anything personal. This has just been discussed so much that it's now a little funny.

What are your thoughts about the whole thing? It's always a lively discussion.

Funny

We are all familiar with the phrase "If I don't laugh, I'm going to cry". The extensive thread I referred to was probably instrumental in the majority of the participants' dealing with what almost seems like a death in the family. Some of us have gone on and realized that the demise of the Albin company will really not change much about the way we appreciate our vessels, their design, and the fellowship of other Albin owners. This is not an uncommon experience in the boating industry, after all. Those who, for whatever reason, have not heard the news until recently may not be as far along in the "recovery" process. Now I realize that this is a bunch of pyscho-babble, but we should be careful about what we call funny like "ha-ha" funny and what is "odd" funny and not take offense if the word is used in a "funny" way. Spring is here people, get ready to enjoy it!

Sorry, I guess I don't find enough time to get on the board. I suppose I could have tried a search? "Albin goes under" "dies" "Goes bankrupt" "tits up"?

I just thought it might be easer to ask, sorry about that.

I did get some positive info regarding the snaps I am looking for, though. Thank you to those that replied to that.

I just meant that it's a long, sad story. I had a chuckle at the thought of someone walking into the group and not knowing. Like, when one of your friends gets divorced from his wife and it's a huge, long, drawn out painful fight over everything, and it's finally over, and you're all standing around at a party and your friend is finally over it and for the first time you can hang out with him and he doesn't go on about how his life sucks anymore. And then some old friend who you haven't seen in years walks up and asks him "hey! How are things with the misses?"

You know what I mean?
