Will rising fuel prices change your boating habits?

Fuel prices & boat use

With fuel prices going in the wrong direction, curious about your thoughts on boat use.

I've seen this post on other boards and was wondering when it would turn up here.
I may slow down a little but maybe that's because I'm getting older. I can't blame fuel prices on that.
Diesel is still reasonable at 3.34 at the Inner Harbor the other day. Of course it may have gone up since then.
We actually plan on more time on the water this year. Maybe we'll bring food on the boat more and eat out less. A good meal is around 100.00. Eat less, cruise more.

Friends pitching in? Yes. I will take anyone up on the offer this year. I am not crazy. In fact, folks that may not have thought aboout it in the past, will be more aware of fuel cost and will hopefully chip in.

Spring is almost here

Did I load up the poll incorrectly? Doesn't seem to re-set after someone votes.

I always plan on using the boat more, but work and home always seems to interfere! But we still get 200-250 hours running time and at least one night a week on board for six months. I'll run it by the wife, but my plan for more boat fuel, less lawnmower fuel may not be approved!

Yes, you did. It'll catch up.

Less mower fuel? Good idea. That is a benefit of living in the city. Almost no grass to cut.

I'm gonna save lots on boat fuel this year. It won't even be put in the water. That saves about 250 gal at at least $8 per gal.

The truck is another matter. It has to drag a 15,000# trailer to Alaska & back. Lets see.......13,000 miles, 9 miles or so per gal. Hmmmmmmm....Oh I really don't want to know but we are going no matter what.

VeeByes,
1400+ gallons of fuel? That will be some traveling. Keep us updated in the cruising forum.

I've already sort of altered my habits over the last few years due to high fuel prices. But one thing that happened was that this actually promted me to buy a LARGER boat. With the high fuel prices, I found that I wasn't using the Albin as much, but rather falling back on my 13' Whaler whenever possible. But that was just not enough boat for what I wanted to do. So, I stepped up to an 18' Boston Whaler Outrage that, while it will use more fuel than the 13', it uses a lot less than the Albin, while providing a compromise platform for Salmon fishing crabbing, and day trips.

I will not restrict my use, rather run at the most economical speed for my boat. Being on the water is just too rewarding.

Wow I just looked at the results and found NOT one vote for the "give it up" option.
Its interesting to see that the enjoyment of using the boat outways the costs, but I think we all knew that already or we would be doing something else :D

I can't figure out how to vote in the poll, does that make me too stupid to be counted?

Ric,
That usually means you are not logged in or you already voted and forgot you did so.
