Cockpit shade 32-35 CB
I'm trying to figure out how to provide shade in the cockpit at anchor or on the dock - something simple and removeable.
I've looked at the Taylor Made 6'x6' shades with telescoping center pole, but that seems small and they don't tilt.
Covers & All will fabricate any size and shape of shade cloth you want, but figuring out how to attach it to our tower (or wherever) is a challenge. I need to measure the height of the lower canopy. Guessing 8'.
Would love to see what other people have done.

Re: Cockpit shade 32-35 CB
Nancy,
I wanted light, easy up and easy down with lots of shade. I ordered this over the phone via zoom out of FL. A fairly large and light shade awning with stainless poles. I can put up in one minute or down in about one minute. It came with a bag for poles and one for the awning. In calm weather I run with it out easily making 15 knots.

Thanks Diggie! That looks like a good possibility. Any chance you have the name of the product or the vendor?

Re: Cockpit shade 32-35 CB
Nancy, I put together something similar to Diggie. All from Amazon. A UV resistant canvas, adjustable poles, and adjustable lines, all for under $100. Simple, light, and easy to adjust as well as store.

Re: Cockpit shade 32-35 CB
If you do it get 2 packs of the adjustable lines so you have a total of 4 - 1 for each corner. Funny thing is that I had mine set up yesterday during a raft up and 3 friends are now making the same purchase. You can get different sizes and colors of the canvas.
Btw, I used to have a Taylormade sun shade. It was good in that you could move it around and actually angle it towards the angle of the sun. Downside was storage and you needed to not only tie the corners of the shade down but the pole as well because it would take off in a breeze.
Good luck !

Re: Cockpit shade 32-35 CB
Thanks, Jim...I have some experimental items on order - lol - 2 large adjustable tilting umbrellas and the Taylor Made sun shade - all returnable.
How did you tie down the TM pole? I don't like the image of it flying away in a breeze.

I just used some nylon line at the top inside where you push it up to open it - there’s a nylon ring that all of the ribs attach to.

What did you attach the other end of the line to?

Depended on the location. Most often I would have the pole on the floor right in front of the engine box on my 28 and tie to pole to the lift handle on the engine box cover.

Re: Cockpit shade 32-35 CB
Time for an update.
Last time I posted, I'd ordered umbrellas and a Taylor Made 6x6 shade. Tried them all, sent them all back.
Then I ordered everything from Jim's Amazon links above, with the shade 8'x9'. Happy to say it's all working well.
Initially, I set it up with the 8' running the width of the cockpit at the bridge and dropped the 9' length straight over the bimini toward the transom. That's pretty good, but the sun is moving to the south this time of year and we need shade on the starboard side of the boat. So I turned the shade 90 degrees and dropped it some over the edge of the bimini, and yes, it's asymmetrical, but it's doing a great job! Makes a huge difference keeping the cabin cool, too.
Thanks again, Jim, for all your input!
