I've got a '93 Albin 28 Tournament Express. I just put a 2006 Peninsular 310 in it with a 2.00:1 ZF63IV transmission and a 4 blade 18"x26" propeller.
It seems to be okay, I had a Marine Power 230 prior to that. I started getting oil in the bilge, and figured a replacement would make more sense versus a rebuild.
At about 2950 rpm, it does 14.5 to 15.5 kts burning 10.0 gph (flowscan/gps). I sometimes see the same boat for sale and some sellers say they do 20 kts at 7gph, which seems a little optomistic to me, even with a Yanmar.
I thought the Peninsular would be pretty much a drop-in, but using the original mount points, the water pump was so close to the tank bulkhead that an impeller replacement looked like a major project. Do any folks here have newer replacement Peninsulars? If so, how is your water pump clearance?
The shop mounted the engine about 3" foward and I had to have a piece cut in the deck and engine cover to accomodate the exhaust elbow.

I also wanted to have an exhaust gas temperature gauge which turned out to be a problem due to the aftercooler. You can see the egt probe screwed into the black elbow. The exhaust is too cool there and it looks like I have to mount the prop upstream on the crossover manifold. Not a big deal just a pain.
In any case, it is nice to meet you all,
Ed Flanagan

Welcome Ed. That's an engine compartment full my friend. I also agree, I wish I could get 20 kts. at 7 gph....at 20 knots I'm burning a tad bit more than 10gph shown on a flow scan as well. I'm running a 6lp300 STE Yanmar, 1999.
Where do you do most of your boating? Glad you found us Albin folks, I think we've all been looking for a place like this to share our Albin stories and find some mutual help. Again welcome aboard.

..great place for a boat. been here since '79. had a blowboat (catalina 27) for many years. got a steigercraft cheseapeake 25 in 2001 and then the albin last year. drove it home from sandy hook, new jersey...so far its fine. fast enough to wakeboard and a decent overnighter. excellent for fishing, too. and of course, its not so big you need a comittee to run it.
