No..
Not really, the decals seemed home made and may not last too long in the Florida sun and rain.
Ideally I should have used these guys to make the decals: https://www.prospectplastics.com/
Used them over 20 years for boat names, hailing ports, registration numbers, etc, but have no idea how to give them the Albin 28 template/logo to feed in the computer.
Took a chance on the $30 eBay decals and they may be ok, but not sure...

Re: Modifications, repairs and improvements, 28TE
Time to replace the 4" athwartship exhaust rubber hose with the 4 T-clamps:
The old one was stuck to the duct/barbs and would not budge.
Had to destroy it with an angle grinder laying half way in the side locker.
All the clamps showed some corrosion, one of them snapped when I was un-screwing it:
The hose went on fairly easy, but it was still like wrestling a small 'gator to make it all fit and line up with the mixer elbow. Total cost for this surgery was only $50-$60 but lots of labor and lots of swearing, pulling pushing. Like going to the dentist: It feels good after..

Next on the list was the Floscan Dampener: Unable to unscrew the old one, stuck good after 20 years in service.
Could not get the fuel hoses off either: Had to cut the hoses, then remove the bracket then mount the bracket in a vise for proper removal. New and improved damper:
New fuel hoses, new SS clamps and ready for a test run after bleeding the fuel system. No leaks from the fuel system, but found the raw water pump leaking again.
One year and 114.4 hours after replacing the pump. (See this thread with postings from January 2021, the pump was stuck on the engine as a nut was stripped.)
That pump lasted 420 hours, this time a little more than 1/4 of that time.
Looks like sh!t happens every January.
How many hours does everybody else get on their Johnson raw water pumps that comes with the Yanmar 6LP engines...?

Re: Modifications, repairs and improvements, 28TE
New pump is in, fairly easy access once I removed a few cables a fuel hose and rigged up a work light.
As usual I had to separate the pump from the manifold to make it it.
Bought this pump from a Yanmar dealer in Sweden last year, much cheaper than US prices and only $20 shipping. The old pump with 114.4. hours since overhaul seems to be leaking from a shaft seal.
All done, ended up replacing a fuel line, removed it for better access and figured I might as we replace it. 1/4 " inside diameter, slipped on snug at one end, but other end had a barb closer to 3/8".
It took 1/2 hour to get it on. No idea what the Japanese was thinking having 2 different size barbs for the same hose..
Old fuel hose on the picture with cracked Yanmar paint, stiff as a bone. New pump installed, no leaks, life is good,

Re: Modifications, repairs and improvements, 28TE
I’d have a good idea why the shaft seal failed so quickly. I’d put money on the internal ring being made from steel and not stainless. The shaft seal clamping rings are steel as standard, you need to buy the clamping rings in stainless separately usually.
Reason for me guess? Made that mistake myself.

Not sure which internal ring you are talking about...?Tree wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 5:47 pm I’d have a good idea why the shaft seal failed so quickly. I did not overhaul the pump, sent it to shop in Tampa, Florida that was recommended to me.
I will call them tomorrow and complain

Restriction in your cooling system can also cause premature pump failure.

Re: Modifications, repairs and improvements, 28TE
Inside the shaft seal is a metal ring - that’s what holds its size. They should be swapped out for stainless ones. Take a look at the seals for signs of rust and that will tell you.Norseman wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 5:55 pmNot sure which internal ring you are talking about...?Tree wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 5:47 pm I’d have a good idea why the shaft seal failed so quickly. Re: Modifications, repairs and improvements, 28TE
I also had a leaking Johnson/Yanmar pump. None of the shops in the Seattle area were willing to rebuild it. Multiple people told me that the failure rate is too high unless they replace all of the components, at which point you are at the cost of a new pump. Bit the bullet and ordered a new Yanmar pump. Hoping to get more than 114 hours out of it. Replacing it was not that fun...

Re: Modifications, repairs and improvements, 28TE
Talked to the overhaul shop about my 114 hour pump, this was their response:
I won't post my response, but the pump is being returned and I expect a free overhaul.
I heard the flush deck boats are worse, if that is possible:(
Warranty for 30 days, seals are not coveredThank you Dag,
We found a copy of the repair invoice as well. To answer your question about warranty, our repairs are warrantied for thirty days. Seals are not covered. From the picture you sent, it appears this pump had been leaking for awhile. The longer the pump is allowed to leak the worse it gets. If the pump was allowed to sit for a lengthy amount of time with salt water in it, that salt will break the seal down. Without flushing the pump with fresh water periodically, or flushing with fresh salt water helps get extended life out of the pump. You are welcome to send the pump in for repair. We will know more once we have the pump apart on our bench. Any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you,

Flush deck, or engine box?Replacing it was not that fun...

The brand new pumps are still available from Sweden, same dealer I bought my pump from last year, same price.

Engine box. Engine mount in the way, and one of my studs was frozen in and the nut rounded off. I think I spent about 3 hours over many days and many rounds of PB Blaster just getting the old pump out. I'm sure it will be easier next time I can't imagine it being worse

Welcome to the club, I had a similar problem last year: Could not get the pump out, thought I had to haul the boat and have a yard lift the engine @$4,000-$5,000 or so.GSSeattle wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 3:04 pmEngine box.
