scupper cover manufacturer

Post by gmberkley »

I'm replacing my thru-hull scuppers and the plastic cover mounted on the stern of the boat, over the thru hull has cracked and is brittle. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement?
I attached a few pictures. Thanks

I have seen people ask this before and am yet to see an answer. My boat has these too. Do you know what the purpose of them is?

I have no ideas what their function is, and I have scoured marine supply stores and researched it to the best of my ability, and I have no answers to anything about them, as they are plastic, it's only a matter of time that will all get brittle and crack and need to be replaced on all boats. My best guess, which is not a good one, is simply it helps protect the flapper valve from constant wave action...............again, best guess, and most likely wrong. you'd think with all the Albins out there, someone has to know something about this..

My guess is they keep floating debris from fouling the flapper? I use them every year to hold the screws while replacing trim tab zincs😁

well, I give up, no one knows anything about these plastic gizmos, so I pulled the trigger, and a friend is going to fabricate them out of 316 Stainless steel, they will be one of the most expensive screw holders on the boat.

The flap is when you are backing or coming off plane quickly so backwash does not end up coming up thru your floor drains. The upward force could force open the flap.

thanks Mike, makes sense, glad I'm replacing them, in lieu of removing them and patching the screw holes. being fabricated now, and will be installed this weekend.

cost me $125 per each, 316 stainless steel, I had to have him modify the outer flange as the new 316 SS through hull fittings I've installed have a larger OD than the existing plastic ones I replaced, but as it's under the swim platform it's not really noticeable. I gave him one of the plastic ones, and he fabricated the new to the exact same size. I have a friend who fabricates as a side gig, he's a certified welder in several classes of metals, he also fabricated a 316 stainless steel strap set up to hold my fuel tank in place, the existing one was broken, and to be honest, a joke, (being very politically correct as I have other adjectives that would better describe the set up, horrible and disgrace come to mind), the new straps are 1/4" plate, 4" wide, and again, 316 stainless steel, and are tied to the stringers and to the bulkhead. a great set up, my tank is 165 gallon so I'm thrilled with how strong and beefy the the new set up is. He got everything done for me in less than a week.

Nice and a good deal.
I will check with my fabricator if he can do the same.
(I was thinking cast SS instead of welded)

If your buddy hasn’t done so already I would get them electropolished - even though it’s 316 the welds have a tendency to tarnish and start to rust or show signs of corrosion. Also get the bolts done as none of those parts will be bonded to the anodes anywhere.
