window trim prep and paint
I have two pictures, attached, showing the exterior front center window frame and the interior starboard side window frame, they are peeling and bubbling up as shown. what is the best way to prepare and repaint them, what type of paint should I use and how do I match the color. thanks

Re: window trim prep and paint
I too will be interested in any help with this issue. The Albin we are buying has the very same issue. It looks like a lot of work to get the window frames out of the boat, I hope it can be done in place.

Re: window trim prep and paint
Had the same problem on my boat.
Tried to remove the window frames and even got estimates for new frames,
Sanded and painted the frames instead: See this thread:

Page 4 and 5 shows a couple of posts and pictures of the window frame project.. 39 Pages on that thread with tons of other projects to sift through .. do you have a page number?
The problem started when a canvas show installed SS screw in the aluminum frames causing galvanic corrosion.
Found it almost impossible to remove the frames, suspect 5200.
Gave up and sanded and painted in place.

they still make it, and I assume after 4 years it's held up well? the reviews on this specific paint are very good. another project added to the growing list.

Re: window trim prep and paint
Yeah, the paint is holding up, but a few bubbles are showing up, need to do some scraping, sanding and painting again. Nothing wrong with the paint, just some minor galvanic corrosion probably.
Will wait until January, nice and cool and my No-Drinking month, get lots of stuff done then.

Re: window trim prep and paint
A vinyl acid-etch primer might help in getting a strong bond between the paint and the metal. Check with your paint supplier.
