type of wood used as access covers

I was wondering if anyone knew what type of wood the access covers were made of, the one on the cabin floor, that provides access to the bilge pump and shower pump gets wet quite often for a variety of reasons, I was thinking of coating it with epoxy paint, any reason this should not be done?

There is every reason to epoxy seal the covers. Exposure to the wet conditions in the bilge can promote mold which will soak into any unsealed wood. Not sure of original wood type but definitely use a marine plywood for any replacements.

From the image posted in another thread, your cabin hatch covers appear to be unsealed press board which is what was used by Albin on my '06. My '02 cabin hatch covers were ACX grade stained and sealed plywood .. a much better choice and finished look.

My floor hatches are sealed with varnish, seems to be holding up well.
Epoxy is also a good solution.

Looks like marine plywood,
All good, solid stuff.

mine have to be some type of press board, they are not plywood, but they are holding up very well, but they do absorb moisture, so I will give them a good coat of marine epoxy paint and see how they hold up, I can replace them with marine plywood if in fact they start to deteriorate. thank you all
