Hello All,
Back when this site was first formed I was one of the first members to join. At the time I was a new Albin owner and I was so proud of my new boat, I just loved it and this website was perfect for meeting other Albin owners and exchanging ideas and stories. Reluctantly, a few years ago we sold our Albin and got out of boat for several years. Last September we made the decision to get another Albin and resume our boating. Well the world had changed and it seems like boating was a past time that everyone wanted to get into. It took nearly a year but we finally found another Albin that seems to fit us. Its not ours yet but the survey and sea trial will happen next week and my fingers are crossed that our new Albin will be coming home with us to Mystic.
I see some familiar names and many new ones, it feels good to be back.

My new Albin is a 2001 28'TE with a 300hp Yanmar. Hopefully it was well maintained and the survey and sea trial will go off without a hitch.

Congrats: Same model and same engine as I have:
Bought my 2001 4 years ago and have ran it 464 hours.
Very pleased with the boat, but also done numerous repairs and upgrades, , like adding a solar panel, new fridge, replaced all 8 portholes, new decking, some new electronics, etc.

Just now looked at my HIN:
AUL28544F001.
Looks like my hull number is 544 then..?
The highest 28TE hull number should be around 1,000…?

Here's the breakdown:

AUL = Albin (laid in Rhode Island)
28 = Model 28TE
544 = number of the hull laid in it's model (Albin started each model at number 100)
F = Hull laid in the month of June
0 = hull laid in year 2000
01= Model Year 2001

Not sure if Denis' 1990's vintage would have been number 70 or 71 out of the original mold??
I'd be very curious as to the number on any hulls laid in model years 2006, 07 and '08

Ok, thx.
Now we know my hull was “laid” the month of June 2000.
Several members here have asked when Albin switched from balsa coring to Airex coring?
Not sure about my actual hull, but I know for sure the stringers are all synthetic foam
(Possibly Airex) pretty much all the way from the forward bilge and aft under the engine.
Coring in the cabin trunk is some kind of wood, possible Marine Plywood, seems too dense for being balsa.
Same with the cabin top, have drilled several samples up there and done a few epoxy repairs to parts of the coring that was rotten after rain water intrusion around the search light.
Hopefully the hull or transom will never be breached so I won’t find out what the coring is made from. :cry:

Can one speculate that hulls laid before June 2000 was 2000 year models, and hulls laid June 2000 or later was 2001 year model..?
