Yanmar 300 6LP - STE low oil pressure

Post by briliz197 »

I have the above engine on my 2000 Albin 28 which is running like a dream, but I want to increase the oil pressure.
Based on one kg/cm2 being equal to 14 psi , at idle I have 28psi and at 3000 rpm I have 42 psi. My alarm goes off occasionally at idle.
I would like to know how to increase the pressure or is the pressure normal for the engine that I have?

My oil pressure is also low at idle, but does not set off any alarm.
I was concerned before buying the boat, but the surveyor said it is ok and it turns out most 6LP has the same indication at idle.

Look up past posts on this subject, including mine. The low oil pressure at idle is normal according to YANMAR.
I had discussions with their reps years ago at the Newport show because the needle was ALWAYS in the red zone at idle - BUT NEVER ALARMED. They happily sent me a new gage (free), with Blue markings instead of the Red in hopes that it would make me feel better. I never installed it. 😊. Don.

I will bet its your gauge or sender. You could install a mechanical gauge right at the engine very easily. I would open up my engine box and peak at the gauge if I was concern. The mechanical one always read higher. I then bought new gauge and sender and it reads much more accurate.
