A Facebook posting has prompted me to post this upgrade that I had done to my Centek muffler on my 31 TE.
Albin or Centek, I'm not sure who, installed self tapping drain screws with rubber o-ring to the bottom aft of the fiberglass Centek muffler in both my former 28TE and my present 31TE. Being in a northern climate that requires annual winterizing of the seawater cooling loop of the engine, I always drain the strainer, coolers and muffler before running PG antifreeze through the system. Over time the self tapping drain screw inserted into the fiberglass muffler looses its bite and the hole begins to weep. Generally just a little sea water.
FYI .. draining the muffler is a must for transport as well.
Instead of just upping the size of the self tappng screw or filling the hole and re-drilling, I added a bronze garboard drain plug by Sea Dog for easier maintenance.
Not pictured is the drain plug drilled and tapped with a screw for the Green Bonding Wire.
