28 TE trailer question...

Post by Duckshack »

Hello, I need a little help. I recently purchased a 2005 28 flush deck. I am having a triple axle trailer built at Palm Beach trailers in Florida. The boat is not in Florida. They have built trailers for Albin 28's in the past but not sure for a flush deck. We are looking for a measurement to set the axles in the correct place for balance. I would like a measurement from the transom to your middle tire where it lines up with the boat, or if you have a tandam axle trailer to the gap between your trailer tires. This should get us in the ball park.
If you have photos of your flush deck on the trailer from the side that could help also.
Thanks, I hope I explained it correctly.

Dan: I have a 2006 Flush Deck originally sold by the Bellingham Yachts people. When they were still selling the Albin Te they used Pacific Trailers out of So. Cal. They still have measurements because they looked up mine and had all the information on it. Was trying to get bunks but they never call back with a price.
Will be at the boat next Monday and will try to get your information if still needed. It is on the trailer in storage
but will likely come out next week. Mine has disc breaks on two axles. Were I ordering it would have brakes on all wheels & electric over hydra for sure.
If you send me a personal note I can forward pictures of the boat on the trailer which are in the computer. I am moving the boat to Lake Tahoe for the season.

If you guys don't mind me asking, what would a custom trailer cost for a 28? I live in Alaska and in search of a 28 but definitely need a good reliable trailer built before I pull the trigger on one. I most likely will not get a flush deck and not sure of the difference it would be for trailers. I'm new to the albins but fell in love with one up here and I'm itching to get one. Thanks!

Ballpark $8k for a trailer, perhaps more in Alaska.
(Everything is more up there  )

I flew airplanes in Alaska, lost an engine in Homer on a DC-3 taking off in rain and fog. Had to change a cylinder in the rain and fog, no hangar, then try the take off again, probably 1981.
A few years later I discovered palm-trees and sunshine in the Caribbean and in Florida.
Never went back.

That's crazy! I'm sitting at the Homer airport right now! I work right beside it. I grew up in Pensacola, FL and spent 19 years there.....fell in love with it up here when I was in the Coast Guard. I will most likely get one made down there since I will have to travel for a boat. What would be a good trailer company to start with?

I ordered a triple axle aluminum in Florida, was just under 12K loaded with electric over hydraulic and disc brakes etc, delivery in 6 weeks approx. Loadmaster galvanized priced out around 14K delivery late fall 2021. Same for Tuff trailers in Washington. Pacific trailers in California did not want to build one as they lost the specs for an Albin 28TE.

Wow...more pricey than I thought.
Been playing with idea of a trailer for my tub, as well as a BIG truck, but looks like I will scratch that idea..

My trailer was closer to 10K, I forgot it included $1500 in delivery fees.

Does anyone know if a 28 TE on a trailer will fit in a 12' overhead door?

Probably not with a radar arch.

Air draft with radar arch: 8'6"
Air draft to wheelhouse top w/o arch: 7'10"
Draft: 3'2"

My boat on the trailer with the radar dome removed is around 13' 3" tall. That is with the radar arch still on the boat.
Even if you removed the radar arch I do not think you will make it in a 12' door on your shop. I have 12 foot low profile doors on my shop and give it very litle chance of fitting...
