Looking for Cummins Parts

Post by Doug »

I am looking for the small red light bulbs that light the instruments in the instrument panel of a Cummins 6BTA in a 32+2 CB. I checked Radio Shack, West, Boaters World, and finally called a Cummins Rep. Believe it or not, the Cummins dealer said they were $38.00 each. This should be a $2.00 bulb.

I would like to buy a spare raw water pump, which they price to me a just over $1,000. Does anyone know a more reasonable place to buy Cummins parts?
Thanks,
Doug

That is really outrageous. Is there any chance that these instruments are shared by the Cummins engines in Dodge trucks? Car dealers are not cheap either but they ought to be able to beat that price.

Doug -

Re the raw water pump, give Tony Athens at Seaboard Marine a call (805) 382-3474. You will have a wealth of knowledge at your disposal and parts at fair prices. From a Cummins parts dealer you will get a marked-up Sherwood pump of the same terrible quality. (Search boatdiesel.com for 100's of threads on this subject.) Tony sells quality raw water pumps that solve this weak link in an otherwise bulletproof engine. He may even throw in a light bulb!

Insturment Bulbs

Post by Doug »

I solved the bulb problem. Went to my local auto parts store and they had the same type "European" bulbs and they were $2.48 for two bulbs. they were clear instead of red, but that is easily fixed.

Thanks,
Doug
